After Cop's contested inaugural address November 1533, André went to the College of Guienne in Bordeaux and was replaced by Diogo de Gouveia the younger.
In 1572 he was briefly director of the College of Aquitaine (Bordeaux), but, bored by the position, he resigned.
When he was twelve years old, he was sent with two younger brothers to the College of Guienne in Bordeaux, which was then under the direction of Jean Gelida.
