After his baseball career, he ran two family businesses—a bowling alley and a dairy bar—before working for General Copper and Brass in Collingdale, Pennsylvania.
On October 10, 2007, the 136th anniversary of Catto's death, the Octavius V. Catto Memorial Fund erected a headstone at Catto's burial site at Eden Cemetery in Collingdale, Pennsylvania.
He was born in Augusta County, Virginia, was educated in the public schools of Rockbridge County, Virginia, and graduated from high school in Collingdale, Pennsylvania.
He died in Philadelphia in 1918, and is buried in an unmarked grave at Eden Cemetery in nearby Collingdale.
