A former member of Fine Gael, in the 2002 Irish general election he unsuccessfully ran in the constituency of Dublin South-East, as a running mate to sitting Fine Gael TD Frances Fitzgerald.
In February 2013 High Court judge Colm Mac Eochaidh ruled in favour of the Commissioner for Environmental Information.
A number of his students, both at Synge Street and Coláiste Eoin included John Crown, Colm Mac Eochaidh, Aengus Ó Snodaigh, Dara Ó Briain and Liam Ó Maonlaí.
