The flight school began as Comair Aviation Academy, established by Comair.
A leader in the regional airline industry, Delta Connection Academy has hiring agreements with the largest regional airlines including Atlantic Southeast Airlines, American Eagle Airlines, Chautauqua Airlines, Comair Airlines, and Trans States Airlines.
Following Eastern's demise, Delta Air Lines assumed this role, although it later pulled much of its large aircraft operations from Orlando, and focused its service there on regional jet flights, specifically with Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Comair and Chautauqua Airlines - all part of the Delta Connection system.
On 18 June 2008, a British Airways Boeing 737-400 (operated by Comair), operating as Flight 6203 from Johannesburg, skidded off the runway at Durban International Airport while landing under adverse weather conditions.
