Being Communists (Essere Comunisti) is a faction within the Communist Refoundation Party in Italy, formed basically of former followers of Armando Cossutta, who left the party in 1998 to form the Party of Italian Communists.
Soon Angius and his followers felt that the new party, led by Fabio Mussi, was moving too far to the left toward a close alliance with the Communist Refoundation Party, the Party of Italian Communists and the Federation of the Greens instead of forming an alliance with the much more moderate Italian Democratic Socialists.
It was founded in June 1995 as a split from the Communist Refoundation Party (PRC) by those Communist MPs who had voted the vote of confidence in the government of Lamberto Dini (supported also by the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS), the Italian People's Party and the Northern League) in March 1995.
