Established in June 1998, each radio station in the network retained its local name and broadcast a live breakfast show from the centre in which it was based and then during the day and overnight would pick up the network feed broadcast from Taupo.
He currently writes columns for The Byron Shire Echo and The Northern Star, frequently writes for the magazine The Monthly, and contributes political commentary to Australia's national Community Radio Network.

The station then became part of the Community Radio Network in 1998 with all content outside the breakfast show being fed from Taupo and in 2001 part of the Classic Hits FM network with the station name becoming Classic Hits Radio Waitomo.
The Australian government's Community Broadcasting Foundation broadcasts a number of services on the platform including the BBC World Service, National Indigenous Radio Service, Vision Australia Radio and the Community Radio Network.
