The station then became part of the Community Radio Network in 1998 with all content outside the breakfast show being fed from Taupo and in 2001 part of the Classic Hits FM network with the station name becoming Classic Hits Radio Waitomo.
At Taupo, Lynn locked out pole position in both qualifying sessions; he set the fastest time by half a tenth ahead of Cassidy in the first session, whereas in the second session – to set the grid for the Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy – Lynn's pole-setting margin was a far more comfortable three tenths of a second, ahead of championship leader Auer.
Established in June 1998, each radio station in the network retained its local name and broadcast a live breakfast show from the centre in which it was based and then during the day and overnight would pick up the network feed broadcast from Taupo.
