In 1981 he became a union organizer for the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (Confederation of National Trade Unions), where he became a negotiator in 1986.
Dufour worked from 1977 to 1998 at Alcoa in Baie-Comeau and was the regional president of the trade union group the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) for six years and the vice-president of the aluminum union group of Baie-Comeau.
As vice-president of the Montreal council of the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) in 1970, Bourdon endorsed Quebec independence and accused Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau of having imposed the War Measures Act on Quebec during the FLQ Crisis to weaken the constitutional Parti Québécois rather than the radical Front de libération du Québec (FLQ) paramilitary group.
In 2006–2007, the company had a labor dispute with the CSN union.
