The Mass is begun with the first part of the Angelical Salutation, and in the Confiteor the words Septem beatis patribus nostris 'our seven blessed fathers' are inserted.
This last custom was muted by Pope John XXIII, but the Confiteor continued to be said as part of the rite of giving Communion to the faithful, if this occurred outside of Mass.

In the Liturgy of the Hours, the Confiteor was said at Prime (usually) and Compline (always).
