In July, 2013 an experienced diver was attacked by a conger eel in Killary Harbour, Ireland, at a depth of 25 meters.

Edward Augustus Conger

During his time as District Attorney, Conger is remembered for his pursuit of murderer Harry Thaw, who in 1906 had shot and killed architect Stanford White on the roof of Madison Square Garden and was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Ray Conger

In 1929, Conger became the first and only athlete to defeat Paavo Nurmi in the mile, beating the "Flying Finn" to the win in the indoor Wanamaker Mile of the Millrose Games.
