Composer John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet contributed the film's jazz score, played by an orchestra that included bandmates Milt Jackson on vibraphone, Percy Heath on bass and Connie Kay on drums, as well as Bill Evans on piano, and Jim Hall on guitar.

Desmond's enthusiasm for the guitarist's style persuaded him to record with Bickert in the United States at Rudy Van Gelder's studio with musicians Connie Kay on drums, and bassist Ron Carter—the album Pure Desmond was the result.
In a 60-year career Licari (who also plays the soprano and alto saxophones) has worked alongside such luminaries as Roy Eldridge, "Wild" Bill Davison, Conrad Janis, Big Chief Russell Moore, Connie Kay, Bob Haggart, Vic Dickenson, Pee Wee Erwin and Doc Cheatham, and with the vocalist Julie Wilson.
She released an album for Candid Records in 1960 (featuring Kenny Burrell, Buck Clayton, Dickie Wells, and Milt Hinton) and one for Atlantic Records in 1962 (featuring John Lewis, Dick Katz, Phil Woods, Jim Hall, Richard Davis, and Connie Kay), then left music to raise a family, returning to a career in music in 1975.
