Any or all of Euphlyctis, Hoplobatrachus, Nannophrys and Sphaerotheca are closer relatives of some species included in Feyervarya sensu lato than the latter are to their supposed congeners.
This species can be distinguished from all Taiwanese congeners except Strumigenys liukueiensis by the numerous stout hairs on the dorsal surface of the mesosoma.
