In accordance with Article 9 of the Belgian Constitution, which stipulates that naturalisation is granted by the federal legislative power, and Article 74, which provides that only the Chamber of Representatives, and not the Senate, is responsible for granting naturalisation.
State reform in Belgium added a devolved level to the existing structure.
It is established by Article 82 of the Belgian Constitution and its main task is to resolve certain disputes with regard to legislative procedure and the time limits within which the Senate can evoke and examine certain bills.
