Contemporary Guitar, a compilation recorded in 1966 and featuring artists John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Bukka White, Max Ochs, and Harry Taussig, displays Takoma's interest in diverse acoustic-guitar styles, from plantation blues to raga.
She is best known for her interpretations of contemporary guitar music, including pieces by Gunnar Berg, Axel Borup-Jørgensen, Cristóbal Halffter, Vagn Holmboe and Bruno Maderna.
After leaving New York and heading west in 1965, Ochs was invited to appear with fellow University of Maryland student and fingerstyle guitarist Robbie Basho, as well as John Fahey and Harry Taussig on a Takoma Records release titled Contemporary Guitar.
