Born to Oddone, or Oddonino Scarampi, signore of Cortemiglia, Enrico Scarampi appears in the historical record in 1396 as Bishop of Acqui.
According to his vida, he was a joglars and trobaire (troubadour) who stayed for a long time in Montferrat, Cortemilia, and the Piedmont at the court of Ottone del Carretto (fl. 1190–1233).
In 1322, in return for reorganising the debts of the Del Carretto family, he obtained the castles of Cairo Montenotte, Rocchetta, and Cortemilia.
