In October 2006 the operation of some of Compass Travel's routes, mainly in the Burgess Hill area, passed to Countryliner.
In 1933, Green Line operated coaches across the home counties and London.

1970 brought nationalisation, and Green Line lost its link to London Transport, to become part of London Country Bus Services Ltd, which was a subsidiary of the National Bus Company.
Services commenced at short notice on 9 October 2012 after Countryliner went into administration the day before and took over their West Sussex operations with a subsidy from the local authority on some of the routes.
