His play led to the EIHL-winning Coventry Blaze signing him in the off-season as a replacement for the injured Rumun Ndur.
On 23 September 2008 a move to Belgian Hockey League team Luik Bulldogs was confirmed, although this agreement was short lived and Whyatt moved back to the UK to be with his longtime girlfriend Chloe Jarvis, a drama student at The University of Lincoln and signed with the Coventry Blaze organisation to ice for their ENIHL level team.
As a member of the Coventry Blaze, Selmser also attended nearby Coventry University and enrolled in several courses.
