The Army began to acquire new equipment, such as the LAV-III, Bison APC and the Coyote Reconnaissance Vehicle as it transitioned to fighting irregular warfare instead of the large tank battles once feared would rage across Western Europe.

The Regiment is made up of HQ,A,B,C,D Squadrons l A,B,D Squadron's based at CFB Petawawa are Recce Squadron's each have 12 Coyote Reconnaissance Vehicles organized into 3 Troops 2 Troops are Recce with 6 Coyotes each and an Assault Troop per Squadron l C Squadron based at CFB Gagetown is currently equipped with the Leopard C2 and will soon be equipped with 19 Leopard 2A4M's
