Cretin-Derham Hall High School, a co-educational Catholic high school in Minnesota
Cretin became a medical term in the 18th century, from an Occitan and an Alpine French expression, prevalent in a region where persons with such a condition were especially common (see below); it saw wide medical use in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and was actually a 'tick box' category on Victorian-era census forms in the UK.
On the first airing of Face Off Minnesota on May 14, 2006, which were the quarterfinal rounds, Cretin-Derham Hall defeated Minnetonka 330-325, and Eden Prairie beat Mounds Park Academy 450-160.
The song "Born Again Cretin" is sampled in the 1999 Italian single "Re-Born Again Cretin" by Almamegretta/Dub Colossus, featuring the vocals of Julianna, which originally appeared on the 1998 album Robert Wyatt e Noi - The Different You (compilation on CPI Records).
