Musically, several groups like Queensrÿche, Iron Maiden, Lord Bane, Tad Morose, Iced Earth, Crimson Glory, Fates Warning, King Crimson, Genesis and Savatage were once credited by the record label Locomotive as influential sources of inspiration for Anubis Gate.
His style is similar to the quasi-operatic stylings of Geoff Tate of Queensrÿche and Midnight of Crimson Glory in that all three prefer singing in a tenor range appended with a well-developed head voice, not falsetto as is often assumed to be used by these singers.
Martin eventually declined to join on a full-time basis and lone survivors, Geoff Gayer and Dean Roberts, started the search anew and were finally introduced to Florida-based screamer Wade Black (Crimson Glory, Leash Law, Seven Witches).
