In addition to never being formally described, it may be a subjective synonym of the crocodilian Machimosaurus
In 1969, a lower jaw of a crocodilian that dated back to the Lutetian stage of the Eocene was found in Saint James Parish, Jamaica, and was described as belonging to a new species of Charactosuchus named C. kugleri.
Fissure deposits have also yielded 8 or 9 genera of Reptiles: a Crocodilian, a Placodont (the first record in Britain of this sub-order), and the dinosaurs Thecodontosaurus and Palaeosaurus.
Fossil remains have been found in the Baharije Formation in Egypt, making it contemporaneous with the crocodilian Stomatosuchus, and dinosaurs Spinosaurus and Rugops.
