The first part of its name is derived from the Earl of Coventry who had Earl's Croome Court as a residence opposite the village church.
After university, Meyrick became resident land agent on the Earl of Coventry's Croome Estate in Worcestershire.
In 1997 in the case of Croome v Tasmania, Croome applied to the High Court of Australia for a ruling as to whether the Tasmanian laws were inconsistent with the Federal Human Rights (Sexual Conduct) Act.
