The Hollywood feature film, "L.A. Story", starring Steve Martin and Sarah Jessica Parker is, according to Martin in "Born Standing Up", partly based on an Irish traditional song, The Maid Of Culmore.

Governor of Londonderry

The Governor was the officer who commanded the garrison and fortifications of the city of Derry and of Culmore fort.

John Leake

Whilst a captain he distinguished himself in several engagements, especially on 28 July 1689, when he led the convoy that broke the barricading boom at Culmore Fort, thus lifting the Siege of Derry.


Dudley McCorkell

While McCorkell was Mayor of Derry, Amelia Earhart completed her first solo transatlantic flight when she landed in Ballyarnett, Culmore.
