Alfred Gatley

In 1844 he received the silver medal for the best model from the life, and exhibited marble busts of "Cupid" and "Psyche", and in 1846 he exhibited a bust of Marshal Espartero, and a model in bas-relief of "The Hours leading out the Horses of the Sun", which went to the library of Britwell Court, Buckinghamshire.

Denis Pyramus

In 1150 he wrote Parthénopéus de Blois, a chivalric tale (romance) whose motif is drawn from the story of Cupid and Psyche.

Partonopeus de Blois

The tale is in essence a variant of the legend of Cupid and Psyche.

Prix de Psyché

The event is named after Psyche, a figure in Greek mythology, a character from a novel by Apuleius and also the title of the tragédie et ballet Psyché.

Dissatisfied, he turned to Apuleius's Golden Ass, translated by William Adlington in 1566, and read through the earlier version of the Cupid and Psyche myth.

Pygmalion and the Image series

This was not Burne-Jones' only series of pictures: others include The Briar Rose series (1885–1890), which was based on Charles Perrault's fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty (as retold by the Brothers Grimm), and Burne-Jones' spectacular Cupid and Psyche frieze.
