The Shoupades were fortifications named after their designer, Confederate Brigadier General Francis A. Shoup.
After being devastated financially in the panic of 1857, Shoup moved to Colorado Territory in 1859 to engage in mining and merchandising near Pikes Peak.
Shoup was elected as a Republican to the Ninety-second and Ninety-third Congresses (January 3, 1971 – January 3, 1975).
