Cynara species are used as food plants by the larvae of many lepidopterans, such as the artichoke plume moth (Platyptilia carduidactyla), a pest of artichoke crops.
During this time she appeared on Broadway (in Cynara and as Judy Linden in The Shining Hour) and in several films, most notably Merrily We Go to Hell.
It is based on a similarly ironic poem by the English Decadent poet Ernest Dowson (1867–1900), with its popular chorus Non Sum Qualis Eram Bonae sub Regno Cynarae ('I have been faithful to thee, Cynara, in my fashion.').
Quarteto em Cy (a play on words of the Portuguese for Quartet in B by poet and lyricist Vinicius de Moraes) is a Brazilian girl group originally composed of four sisters hailing from Ibirataia, a town located in the Brazilian state of Bahia: Cybele, Cylene, Cynara and Cyva - their real first names.
It lay forgotten and not quite complete until 1929, when Eric Fenby discovered it and prompted Delius to complete it as a separate work in its own right, which he called Cynara.
