During this period Davies and Korner worked as session musicians, and often backed Ottilie Patterson during her featured set with husband Chris Barber's band, using amplified instruments for the first time - which did not go down well with their blues purist audience and many fellow musicians.
He appeared with the band in 1962 and 1963 with fellow Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages and Cyril Davies' All Stars band members Carlo Little and Nicky Hopkins, including a gig at Sidcup Art College, Bexley, which Keith Richards had attended.

In 1960, Dobell started a short-lived spin-off label, Folklore, which released albums by Steve Benbow, Dominic Behan, Richard Fariña and Eric von Schmidt, and Cyril Davies and Alexis Korner, amongst others.
