In 1854, families began to establish in the Sarsfield region, such as the Potvin's, the St-Denis', the D'Aoust's, the Lafrance's and the Éthier's.

One of these colonizers, Sévère D'Aoust, bought land from the Crown and later gave part of this land for the construction of a Roman Catholic church.
Sévère D'Aoust born in Vaudreuil, Lower Canada in the early 19th century, established a village in the region of Bear Brook in 1854.
D'Aoust, the hero of Peyrestortes, fell afoul of the suspicious Committee of Public Safety and two rival generals in January 1794.
