TMG is mainly used as a strong, non-nucleophilic base for alkylations, often as a substitute for the more expensive bases DBU and DBN.
The Band soon moved to DBN, and their first album La Kulebra was released the following year.
After acetylation to 4.11 and inversion of configuration with added base DBN this problem was remedied in compound 4.12.
