In 1781, Lochry as the County Lieutenant for Westmoreland County and Colonel Daniel Brodhead, who commanded the Colonial forces at Fort Pitt were unable to agree upon a strategy for meeting Indian attacks upon colonial settlements on the frontiers of Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The alarm was brought to Pittsburgh, and Colonel Brodhead sent three of the "brother officers" from Fort Pitt about June 10, 1779, to reconnoiter the Seneca country.
He died 22 July 1755 in Bethlehem, leaving each of his four sons (Daniel, Garret, Luke, and John) 150 acres from his estate.
George Washington sent Samuel Brady on special assignments and even wrote a letter to his Commander, Col. Daniel Brodhead, of the Eighth Pennsylvania, commending Samuel for his services.
