Michael Palin visited the town as part of his Himalaya television series, as did Ethan Casey in his travel book Alive and Well in Pakistan while Australian film director Benjamin Gilmour's feature drama Son of a Lion set in Darra Adam Khel premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival 2008.
In the middle and lower catchment, Oxley Creek and its tributaries flow through 28 Brisbane suburbs including Algester, Corinda, Darra, Durack, Forest Lake, Moorooka, Salisbury, Sunnybank Hills, Graceville and Sherwood.
Prior to the opening of the Merivale Bridge in 1978, through trains ran from South Brisbane to Darra and Ipswich via Tennyson plus a local shuttle service between Yeerongpilly and Corinda calling at Tennyson.
