Selected in 1983 by the Hartford Whalers, Jensen played with the U.S. National Team in 1983–84 as an amateur and was a member of the Olympic team that played in the 1984 Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo.
Drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft, Sidorkiewicz never got the opportunity to play for the Caps; they traded him to Hartford in 1985 with Dean Evason for David Jensen on March 12.
