The Dublin-born singer-songwriter David Kitt (born 1975) is the grandson of Michael F. Kitt, Snr.
In late September 2008, Kitt announced the title of his new album, The Nightsaver, and began promoting it by supporting Tindersticks on their Irish gigs and subsequent European tour in early 2009.

Despite this success, the album failed to make the same impact in the UK, due in a large part to the lack of promotion by then label Universal.
In a video interview with the Dutch online music magazine FaceCulture, singer Stuart Staples said the album's title was inspired by a story related by guitarist David Kitt, when Kitt had been sent to a songwriting workshop in the United States, and a fellow attendee was having trouble finding a suitable adjective to describe the song he was writing.
