According to his autobiography "Still Me", one of the main reasons he took the role was because Michael Caine was originally lined up to play Burt Reynolds role, and he had enjoyed working with Caine a decade earlier in Deathtrap, but after signing on found out that Caine had been booted out in favor of Reynolds.

Hill's West End work include his leading role debut in Deathtrap (Garrick Theatre), Ladies in Retirement (Fortune Theatre), and a tap-dancing Aggie footballer choreographed by Tommy Tune in the original UK production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane).
In addition to his work on album covers, Melvyn Grant has produced illustrations for many books, including the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks FF 3: Deathtrap Dungeon, FF9: Shamutanti Hills, FF 11: Khare Cityport of Traps, and FF13: The Seven Serpents, Terry Pratchett's Where's My Cow?, The Demonata series by Darren Shan and The Bartimaeus Trilogy (USA) by Jonathan Stroud.
Her stage career took her from repertory theatre at the Bristol Old Vic and Pitlochry, to West End appearances including Noël Coward's Present Laughter, Mame with Ginger Rogers, An Italian Straw Hat, Anyone For Denis?, and Deathtrap.
