Katz has two children and several grandchildren through her marriage to Harold Evensky.

She also serves as an Associate Professor in the Personal Financial Planning Division at Texas Tech University.

On October 20, 2013, Katz received the Financial Planning Association's Heart of Financial Planning Award, granted jointly to Katz and her husband and business partner Harold Evensky.

In 1990, she moved to Miami, merging her practice with those of Harold Evensky and Peter Brown to form Evensky, Brown & Katz, where she previously served as President and is now Chairwoman.
