This involved a journey over four different stretches of railway line, the first leg was from Sheffield Midland Station to Deepcar, this was followed by a journey to Stocksbridge on the Samuel Fox and Company private line.
A vicarage was added in 1862, in 1870 Bolsterstone became a parish in its own right and included nearby Stocksbridge and Deepcar.
The new road links the M1 motorway at Junction 35A (and J36) to the Woodhead pass (which is one of the main trans-Pennine routes from Sheffield to Manchester) bypassing the towns of Stocksbridge and Deepcar, taking away the steelworks traffic through the town as well.
