Other threats to the habitat and its plants include exotic plant species such as Bahia grass (Paspalum notatum).

The fragrance of the flowers has been described as "rubbery", and is caused by several compounds, including ethyl benzoate, trans-β-ocimene, limonene, and germacrene.
