Kahrs was a member of the board of Den Nationale Scene from 1892 to 1909, and chaired the supervising committee of the Bergen Line.

He has set up plays at a number of theatres, including Nationaltheatret, Det Norske Teatret, Den Nationale Scene and Agder Teater.

He was theatre director at Rogaland Teater from 1986 to 1989, leading Agder Teater from its opening in 1991 to 1994, was art director for the opening and closing ceremonies at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, and theatre director at Den Nationale Scene from 1998 to 2001.
He worked briefly as a press secretary for the theatre Den Nationale Scene before studying at the University of Oslo.
In recent years, he has been active on both jazz venues and as a freelance musician at both theater on Den Nationale Scene in Bergen, and with artists like Odd Børretzen, Jan Eggum, Herborg Kråkevik, Nathalie Nordnes, Christina Bjordal, Christine Sandtorv, and Helene Bøksle.
Many important Bergen architects designed buildings in this part of Strandgaten, including Einar Oscar Schou, who had also designed Den Nationale Scene, Finn Berner (the building on the corner with Torgallmenningen, which was his design), Fredrik Arnesen and Arthur Darre Kaarbø, Sigurd Lunde, Ingolf Danielsen, Leif Grung, and Per Grieg.
