In 1983 Computervision purchased Cambridge Interactive Systems (CIS), founded by British computer scientist Dr. Dick Newell and Tom Sancha.
Newell has also held a council member position for the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO).
The software was originally created by the Smallworld company founded in Cambridge, England, in 1989 by Dick Newell and others.
