In 1916, while a member of the U.S. national soccer team, he played in a baseball game against a Swedish baseball team from Västerås.

During the six game tour, the U.S. played two recognized international games, one on August 21, 1916 against Sweden and another on September 3, 1916 against Norway.

Thirty years later, on August 20, 1916, the United States played its first official international match under the auspices of U.S. Soccer against Sweden in Stockholm, which the U.S. won 3–2, with goals from Dick Spalding, Charles Ellis and Harry Cooper.
