It is currently the active ingredient in TURF-Cal manufactured by Mallinckrodt, it is one of the few herbicides – used mainly for the control of Poa annua and crabgrass- that hinders earthworm activity.
The preferred host plants are the very toxic Calotropis procera, various Digitaria species and some plants of economic importance (e.g. Solanum melongena, Hibiscus esculentus, Abelmoschus esculentus, Lycopersicon esculentum and Solanum tuberosum).
Other threats to the species include the invasion of non-native plant species such as cogongrass (Imperata cylindrica) and pangolagrass (Digitaria eriantha), dumping of abandoned cars and other garbage, and vandalism.
