In 1967, Sarmiento, Jr. enrolled at the University of the Philippines in Diliman where he joined the Alpha Phi Beta fraternity.
She then obtained a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP Diliman) in 1970.
An interior designer and teacher by profession, Guinid graduated from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
She earned her doctorate degree in Comparative Literature from the University of the Philippines (Diliman) and her Master of Arts in English from the University of Calgary (Canada).
He was also elected as the Deputy Grand Triskelion of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, UP Diliman chapter.
She is also the mother of journalist Kara David and UP Diliman geology professor Dr. Carlos Primo David.
He also served as assistant professor in international studies at De La Salle University from 1997 to 1998, instructor in political science at the University of the Philippines (Los Banos) from 1992 to 1995, and in 1996 University Research Associate at the University of the Philippines (UP Diliman), where he took his BA, MA and PhD (ABD or All But Dissertation status) all in Political Science.
After high shool, he pursues his dream and graduated in University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.
