Diyatalawa

They had to move out in 1962 and it was taken over by the Gemunu Watch.

Early in World War II the camp was reopened and German nationals resident in Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as many sailors, like those removed from the Asama Maru in violation of international law, were housed here.

At that time training was conducted at the Imperial Camp which is presently occupied by the Gemunu Watch troops.

Nanda Mallawaarachchi

Mallawaarachchi enlisted into the Sri Lankan Army in 1971, upon his completion of his Officer Cadet training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa.

Shantha Kottegoda

Kottegoda enlisted into the Sri Lankan Army in February 1970, upon his completion of his Officer Cadet training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, then called the Army Training Centre.

Shavendra Silva

As an officer instructor at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in Diyatalawa, he trained the first foreign cadets to attend SLMA and went on to become its commanding officer.

Sri Lanka Army Commando Regiment

Maj. Sunil Peris from 1GW, Capt. Sarath Handapangoda from 1st SR and three other ranks were selected as a Core Group and training commenced in the Ella Camp, Army Training Centre, Diyatalawa.

A Commando squadron was formed in Gemunu Watch ‘B’ Camp at Diyatalawa and Maj S.D. Peiris GW was appointed officer commanding, and Capt. Sarath Handapangoda was appointed as 2nd In Command.
