Ashley first gained notoriety on August 4, 1974 when Stein, then a 19-year-old college student, smuggled him into Dodger Stadium during a nationally televised baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds.
Early plans also included a north–south freeway on each side of the Los Angeles Central Business District, splitting at the merge of the Harbor Parkway (Harbor Freeway) and Venice Parkway northeast of the University of Southern California, and rejoining at the split between the Arroyo Seco Parkway (Pasadena Freeway) and Riverside Parkway south of Dodger Stadium.
In the next 10 years, the Mop Tops toured the world, played Candlestick Park and Dodger Stadium, and made hundreds of personal appearances.
The duo had earlier written "I Love Mickey," a tribute to New York Yankees centerfielder Mickey Mantle recorded in 1956 by Teresa Brewer, and “It’s a Beautiful Day for a Ballgame,” well known to fans who heard it played regularly at Dodger Stadium home games.
Other accomplishments include working with Disney English, performing with Adam Lambert at Gridlock NYE 2010 at Paramount Studios, entertaining at the Academy Awards Gifting Suite; playing at Dodger Stadium, The Knitting Factory, The Viper Room, Spirit West Coast, The Cat Club, The Roxy Theatre (West Hollywood); being a part of Max Azria's BCBG clothing line campaign BCBGeneration, and performing for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
From the late 1980s to the present day, Bea– alongside announcers Vin Scully and Rick Monday– became great crowd favorites at Dodger Stadium.
The fight took place at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles as part of a title triple-header which also featured; Emile Griffith vs Luis Manuel Rodriguez at welterweight and Sugar Ramos vs Davey Moore at featherweight.
