3 unusual facts about Dogpatch

Dogpatch

Like the Coconino County depicted in George Herriman's Krazy Kat and the Okefenokee Swamp of Walt Kelly's Pogo, Dogpatch's (and Lower Slobbovia's) distinctive cartoon landscape became as identified with the strip as any of its characters.

Al Capp (1909—1979) used to joke that Dogpatch was based on Seabrook, New Hampshire, where he would vacation with his wife, Catherine.

Dogpatch, San Francisco

After Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, the Mexican government granted Potrero Nuevo to Francisco and Ramon de Haro - the 17-year-old twin sons of Don Francisco de Haro, then alcalde (mayor) of Yerba Buena (modern day San Francisco) in 1844.
