Its main campus lies between Chiang Mai downtown and Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai Province.
A specimen was collected by Arthur Francis George Kerr 1910 in or 1911 in the Doi Suthep mountains west of Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand) at an altitude of 390 m above sea level.
Kerr discovered the plant in the jungle on the mountain Doi Suthep which is near the city Chiang Mai, at an altitude of around 1500-1650 meters above sea level.
