After a break from music, during which he completed an M.Sc in Economics from the London School of Economics, he formed a band with his Goodenough College friends Alistair Watson, Andrew Morgan and Benjamin Salmon.
The Fierce Panda release of "Everybody's Changing" was both Keane's first commercial release, and their first release after the departure of guitarist Dominic Scott.
Unlike with their follow up album, most songs were already composed by the album's conception date; the track "She Has No Time" was composed circa 1999, making it the earliest composed song appearing on the album, and the remaining were composed just after former member Dominic Scott's departure in July 2001.
It was one of the first songs played without Dominic Scott, ex-guitarist of the band, being possibly about him.
Shortly after this record was released, guitarist Dominic Scott left the band, and was Keane's last release with a guitar as part of their instrumentation until the 2007 cover b-side "She Sells Sanctuary".
