Following a tour of duty in the Iraq War, Dunbar was named Adjutant General of Wisconsin by Jim Doyle in 2007.
It was first excavated by persons unknown, and the recent excavations by Donald P. Ryan have found a large number of damaged items from two individuals, possibly nobles of the nearby tomb of Thutmose IV.
In 1990 the tomb was rediscovered, reopened and properly excavated by a team led by Donald P. Ryan and Mark Papworth.
He has received many honors including the Hertz Foundation Thesis Prize, the Donald P. Eckman Award from the American Automatic Control Council, the Curtis W. McGraw Research Award from the Engineering Research Council, and the Antonio Ruberti Young Researcher Prize from the Antonio Ruberti Foundation and IEEE Control Systems Society.
