Sahely spent seven years performing and writing with The Second City and received a Dora Mavor Moore Award for work on the Toronto Mainstage.
He is a two-time nominee for the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Principal Role – Play, in 2009 for Miss Julie: Freedom Summer and in 2011 for Topdog/Underdog.
In 2004 she played Tracy Turnblad, the lead role in the Canadian version of Hairspray, for which she was nominated for a Dora Award.

It was performed across Canada, and won the Chalmers Award, the Canadian Authors’ Association Award, and the Dora Mavor Moore Award, all for Best New Play.
In 2012 she garnered a Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Principal Role for her role as Hermione in Necessary Angel's production of Jean Racine's Andromache.
In 1943, he married Darwina Faessler, with whom he had four daughters, including Charlotte Moore and Tedde Moore, both Dora Mavor Moore Award winners.
