3 unusual facts about Dougal Drysdale


BRE Centre for Fire Safety Engineering

The staff of the BRE Centre for Fire Safety Engineering comprises eight academics (including Prof Jose L Torero, Prof Asif Usmani and Prof Drysdale), six research fellows, about 25 postgraduate researchers and a few undergraduate researchers.

Many of those who are now leaders in the field came to Edinburgh to study and research under the supervision of Rasbash, one of the main pioneers of the discipline, and Dougal Drysdale, author of the definitive text book on the subject.

He has been involved in a number of Public Inquiries, including the King's Cross Underground Station fire (London 1987), the Piper Alpha explosion and fire (North Sea, July 1988) and the fire in the Garley Building (Hong Kong, 1996).
